Fabulous Birthday Pinspiration

Tags

, , , ,

Pinterest is one of the best ways to find ideas on your next project.  You can start with an idea on the stamp set or color combination you may want to use, or just start exploring layout ideas without searching for anything in particular.  There is a world of inspiration out there, you just need to start looking!

I started my Pinspiration search with two stamp sets in mind and found this pin for This Little Piggy, and this pin for Tabs For Everything.  From these ideas, I created this fabulous birthday card!

The Picture Perfect Party DSP stack made the perfect base for my card.  I then used a piece of thick whisper white cardstock and placed more dsp and a strip of dazzling diamonds washi tape to the left and right sides, creating a frame for my main image.

My birthday pig was stamped in archival ink and then colored using my Aqua Painter and Powder Pink ink.  The heaviest color was applied in the shadowy areas to give my pig added dimension.  I also added a gold crown from the Tabs For Everything stamp set to the pigs head and fussy cut the entire image for perfect placement on my cardfront.

I’ve got to say that I really love how this card turned out!  I didn’t realize how great the Tabs For Everything stamp set is and just how versatile it could be.  I picked out the relevant words for a birthday event and stamped them in various colors.  I then cut out each word.  A mess of gold thread was laid out on the front of my card and then each cut word was applied “randomly” with Stampin’ Dimensions, used to keep my thread in place.  Finally I added some black sequin throughout the words.

Flowers Make Me Happy

Tags

, , , ,

The weather here is as steady as it usually is this time of year, meaning it could feel like the dead of winter one day and like a nice spring morning the next!  We’ve been seeing a lot of rain over the past few days, so I’m really hoping that the sun will come out soon and begin to wake the ground and trees.  I’ve already started to notice a few blooms, so spring is definitely in the air!

Flowers make me happy, so I couldn’t wait for today’s Fabulous Friday theme on spring flowers.  While I love all the pastel colors that usually surround spring, I wanted something more vibrant.  So I pulled out my Whole Lot of Lovely designers series paper as my color inspiration.  I just love how the colors pop in contrast to the black and white background!

I bet you’re trying to figure out what framelit I used for the stamped flowers featured on the front.  Well, if you haven’t guessed yet, it isn’t a framelit at all!  In fact, it is a strip of Whisper White Thick Cardstock (paper scraps, y’all!) that I used in my Pretty Label Punch.  Lovely, right?!

The next image really shows off the Pool Party water color I added behind the flowers.  This was quickly and easily done by adding a bit of ink to my Aqua Painter tip and washing the cardstock with color until it was saturated to my liking.  I was sure to dry my paper thoroughly before stamping my flower images.

The sentiment I used actually came from the This Little Piggy stamp set.  I carefully separated the “You Make Me HAPPY” portion from the prancing piggy.  This allows me to use the images in even more versatile ways!  The picture doesn’t do it justice, but the white craft ink on black cardstock stands out quite well.  You could even go a step further by heat embossing in white embossing powder.

Technique Fun with Faux Tile

Tags

, ,

I love trying new stamping techniques, and even retrying old ones.  Faux Tile is on of those techniques I enjoy both the process and result, but then easily forget when I move on to the next project.  There are a couple of different ways to try out this technique.  For my project today, I chose to create a glossy decorated tile look, much like you would see on a kitchen back-splash.

Retirement Congrats card / faux tile technique / glossy tile technique / Timeless Textures stamp set / Stampin' Up! / Stampinblessings.wordpress.com

The tiles were created by scoring 1-inch squares on a piece of Whisper White Thick Cardstock.  I then used a decorative image from the Timeless Textures stamp (it reminds me of a pretty china pattern) and stamped the entire sheet in Marina Mist.  Unfortunately, some of the ink fell into my scored grooves, so I decided to cut out each square and re-adhere them to a newly scored sheet.

I wanted my tile to have an aged look, so I sponged on some Sahara Sand over the corners of my tiles.  Then I applied a glossy layer using the Fine-Tip Glue Pen.  I set it aside to dry while I completed the rest of the project.

This card is intended for a dear friend of mine who is retiring and moving closer to some of her grand-babies.  I used the sentiments from the Wild About Flowers Photopolymer Stamp Set.  The photopolymer makes it really easy to piece together the “Congratutions” portion with the “Retirement” image.  On the inside of the card, I stamped the coordinating saying and added the Timeless Textures image to bring all the pieces together.

If you would like to try this technique yourself, here are the Stampin’ Up! products I used that you may need.  To get started on your order, click on a thumbnail below to go to my online store.
