What is National Navy Day?
Navy Day is observed annually on October 27. It is a day to salute all of the women and men who have served, both past and present, in the United States Navy. The United States Navy (USN) is the naval warfare service branch of the United States Armed Forces and one of the seven uniformed services of the United States.

On this National Navy Day, the Sisters In Stamping challenged designers to feature Night of Navy color in our projects.  I was excited for this challenge for two reasons, 1) I love this color, and 2) my dad served the US Navy and I feel blessed to honor him and other service members today.

My project is quite simple, but elegant.  These foil snowflakes can be use anytime of the year, not just for the winter.  They are a versatile embellishment that should be used very much like you would use doilies in your paper crafting.

Color combination challenges are always a great way of learning how to use different colors together.  They are best made up of colors that work well together, but aren’t ones that you typically used on the same project.  That’s exactly what this Sisters In Stamping color combo challenge did for me!  Here was the challenge:

SIS Color Combo Challenge

I think anyone seeing these colors together immediately thinks of flowers, and as much as I like to think outside of the box, that’s what I ended up with as well.

I'm here for you card / watercolor technique / puffing 3-D technique / You've Got This stamp set / Stampin' Up! / StampinBlessings.wordpress.com

The flower from the You’ve Got This stamp set was perfect for a watercolor technique using each of these colors.  I then fussy-cut out the flower and used a puffing technique to create a 3-D effect.  To do this, I turned over the flower (stamped image down) on my piercing mat and gently rubbed the back with my Stampin’ Stylus until the edges started to curl up a little.  I then used dimensionals to adhere it to my card and maintain the shape

Fun Folds and Champagne Foil

13 Friday Oct 2017

The trending metallic color for this fall/winter is bound to be champagne, which I love!  That’s why I’m so excited about the new Champagne Foil Sheets offered in the 2017 Holiday Catalog.  This metallic color is softer than gold, not as rustic as copper, and classier than silver.  I think we’ll be seeing a lot of it around Christmas, but nothings stopping me for Fall inspired projects as well.

This week at the Sisters In Stamping blog, we were challenged with fun folds or cuts projects.  It’s been a while since I’ve done one of these since they take a bit more planning and measuring.  But this week I decided to try a fun fold technique that wouldn’t take much more than I put into a regular card.  When this card is closed, it looks almost normal!

You Make Me Smile card / fun folds technique / champagne foil sheets / Colorful Seasons Photopolymer Bundle / Colorful Seasons Photopolymer Stamp Set / Seasonal Layers Framelits Thinlits Dies / Stampin' Up! / StampinBlessings.wordpress.com

My Flirty Flamingo cardstock base was sized at 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″ and scored at 2 1/8″ on each long end instead of at 4 1/4″ like I would for a center fold.  This fold is called a gate fold because it opens and closes like a gate.  I then took what would have been a regular card front, layered stamped Whisper White cardstock on a Champagne Foil Sheet and cut them down the middle so that I could adhere each side to my gate folded cardbase.

With the card front closed, I aligned my Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies layer pieces in the center of my card.  Then using dimensionals and foam adhesive strips, I adhered the champagne frame to the left panel and the leaf image to the right panel.

When the card is closed the center piece is inserted to the frame, holding the card closed.  I love the crispness of this layout, but the wow-factor with the fun fold.  If you would like to try this project for yourself, you may need some of the following products.  Just click the link to start your order through my online store.

National Mad Hatter Day October 6

According to the National Day Calendar, “October 6 is a day set aside each year to bring out your silly side while celebrating National Mad Hatter Day.  The fictional character, The Hatter (also known as The Mad Hatter) from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, is typically acting silly, and that is how the creators of this day decided on their theme of silliness for National Mad Hatter Day. “
This day inspired the Sisters In Stamping to create silly cards for today’s post.  I turned to the silliest people I know (my family) for some creative help.  With some of their ideas and a bit of Pinterest inspiration, I ended up with this cute little card.

Don’t be mistaken, this is an UN-Birthday card and can be used for any day.  But don’t forget the tea and cake!

My Cheshire cat was created using the Fox Builder Punch, and inspired by fellow crafter Jo Stubbings.  This cute fella needed an expressive face, so I stuck on a couple of mini googly eyes to go along with his huge grin.  I raised him and his balloons on my cardfront with some Stampin Dimensionals.
Here is a listing of products I used if you want to try this project yourself.  Just click a thumbnail to go to my online store and start your order.
